What We Do

We are the first Canadian post-secondary engineering design team dedicated to exploring extended reality technologies.

UCXR, formerly known as ARmed, is an engineering design team at the University of Calgary dedicated to exploring the frontiers of XR technology.

We bring together hardware design, software development, and UX to build spatially aware systems — from PCBs to immersive interfaces.

Through collaborative innovation, we aim to enhance human capabilities through the power of spatial computing.

Every aspect of our project is created in-house

From the mechanical and electrical systems to the software that powers the headset, our multidisciplinary team collaborates closely to ensure seamless integration across all components.

We create our own 3D models
and animations

Specializing in Blender, our creative team crafts detailed animations and 3D models to bring our vision to life.

Showcasing the potential
of mixed reality

As a techical mixed reality team we plan on taking our designs to mixed reality conferences on a yearly basis.

Extended Reality (XR) Applications

Education & Learning

Interactive 3D models bring learning to life. Our team has crafted detailed human anatomy models that transform education into an immersive experience. Looking ahead, we are exploring a diverse range of subjects, ensuring that learners engage deeply across various fields of study.

AR Educational Experience
Gaming & Entertainment

Turn any environment into a playground with XR games that deliver truly immersive and interactive experiences. At the Laval Virtual 2025 Hackathon, our team brought this vision to life by creating a playful, VR experience designed to engage and immerse users in a new world.

AR Gaming
Industrial & Manufacturing

Future applications of our AR headset extend into industrial training, real-time equipment maintenance visualization, and streamlined quality control inspections, offering hands-free support to enhance efficiency and safety in a variety of settings from the factory floor to lab environments.
